5 steps to create your dream kitchen

We love working on new builds and major renovations - and almost all of them involve new kitchens.  While we are not kitchen designers (we leave that to the experts!), we give you a huge step-up in the process, creating the initial concept for your kitchen that works in stylish partnership with the rest of your home. Read on for the 5 steps we’ve found work best to create your dream kitchen.

Initial Consultation

It starts with a conversation - meeting with you for an onsite consultation to discuss your overall renovation or new build brief. We take time to learn about you, your family, your style, your way of life and your vision for your home. This is where you share with us your desired design direction, wish list, timeframe and project budget.

Design Concept

This is the first glimpse of our vision for your kitchen - a visual presentation of our approach and design direction, including the colour palettes, overall aesthetic, loads of reference images and key materials.

Design Development

This is the most extensive step of the process and where you need to partner with the kitchen professionals! Kirsten Ford Design will brief your chosen kitchen designer and cabinet maker with the design concept and they will then visit your home to gather precise measurements and complete their own detailed briefing process. They’ll get into the details of how to best utilise the space and come back to you with computerised drawings of the design. We are involved through this stage as little or as much as our clients prefer.

Final specifications

This is the step of our process where the kitchen designer and ourselves put together design selections that blend practicality, aesthetics and budget for your kitchen. This includes deciding on the finishes and materials for cabinetry, countertops, splashback, lighting, plumbing and more for your new design. We’ll help you weigh the benefits and costs of different options and combine elements to create your perfect design within your budget.

Creation and install

Your cabinet maker will agree the final plans and specification with you and then begin construction of your custom kitchen. They will liaise with all necessary trades and manage your job through to installation.
